Another high school swim season is on us and the Palmetto High swim team has started its third full season of high school swimming. The team begins its seson on August 20th at Gower Pool in Greenville at a meet hosted by JL Mann. The Mustangs will take part in an eight meet schedule that includes meets in Greenwood, Greenville, and Clemson. They will finish the season with a regional meet hosted by Emerald High at the Greenwood YMCA.
It is very exciting for the swimmers entering the new season and we have grown. We now have four swimmers and we hope to continue to grow in the future.Palmetto still has a small team with only four members, but we have added two new swimmers including 7th grader Bryce Roberts and 8th grader Hunter Donald who attend Palmetto Middle School. The returning team consists of Sarah Beach, a junior and Tal Davis, a freshman, at Palmetto High. Both swimmers were named to the all conference team and Tal was named top male swimmer in the conference, finishing 2nd in the 400 freestyle and 4th in the 100 backstroke at the state meet in Columbia at USC.
Swimming is something new at Palmetto High School. Right now we have a small team. Our hope is that this team will continue to grow over the next few years as more people become aware of the sport and the opportunity that is now available to students who want to swim competitively at the high school level here at Palmetto. The teams regular season is over in September, but starting in the weeks that follow, we will provide on this site more information on how students can get prepared for next year if they are interested in swimming. Starting the first week in August, this site will have information that will list requirements to join the team, opportunities to get the training needed to join the team, and important dates and schedules. We as a team want to thank all those people who have supported us in this effort and we hope to have a good season this year and a much longer team team roster to talk about next year.
