• LEAP Week at PVMS

    August 5, 2020

    Dear New and Returning Parents:

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it many challenges.  One of these challenges is how to return to school safely.  With incredible support and leadership from our Board of Trustees and countless hours of work by our district office staff, teachers, school level administrators, and community members, I am confident in our district’s return-to-school plans for the 2020-2021 school year.

It is important for you to know that the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is always at the forefront of every decision. An extensive number of safety procedures and protocols are in place to create a safe environment in which to learn and work.

If you have not familiarized yourself with these procedures and protocols please click on the following link to our COVID 19/reopening of school information on our district’s website.

The week of August 10-14, 2020, is LEAP Week (Learn, Evaluate, Analyze, and Prepare). LEAP Week is designated by the State Department of Education and the State Legislature to provide additional school days to students. While LEAP is not required, all students in grades K4-8 will be invited to attend school during that week. However, due to ongoing construction at PVMS, we will not have access to our classrooms during LEAP Week. For that reason, we will instead be holding informational meetings for face-to-face learners and their parents/guardians in the PVHS auditorium. Virtual Learning Academy students and their parents/guardians will not need to attend these informational meetings because procedures necessary for face-to-face learners will be the topic of discussion. More information relevant to Virtual Learning Academy students is listed below.

What to Expect if you opted for the ASD1 Virtual Learning Academy for the 2020-21 School Year:
We have scheduled a time for all Virtual Learning Academy students in the Powdersville Area in grades 6-8 to receive an important iPad update to the iBoss Connector App. VLA students may also return all other school-issued technology devices (such as a Chromebook) at this time. This will take place on Wednesday August 12th in the Powdersville Elementary Bus Circle. To access the bus loop, parents should enter using the road between Powdersville Middle and Powdersville Elementary (Entrance B off Hood Road) and turn right into the parking lot. Parents should wait in the car, and iPads will be returned to the car once the update is complete. This process should only take a few minutes. Again, this is for VLA students only.

    Please use the following schedule:
    Last Names A-E 9:00 am - 10:30 am
    Last Names F-L 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
    Last Names M-S 1:00 - 2:30 pm
    Last Names T-Z 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

We are asking that all 6-8 grade students in the VLA click on the following link and follow these steps (click to access) to download the iBoss App in order to clean up their iPad before driving through on August 12.  This will expedient the updating process.

What to Expect if you opted for Face-to-Face Learning for the 20-21 School:
Informational meetings for face-to-face learners will be held in the Powdersville High School Auditorium organized by student last names.  You will have the opportunity to meet administrators and ask questions in preparation for the upcoming school year.  We will introduce the safety protocols that will be followed during the school year.  We hope this time will alleviate some of the anxiety created by beginning a new school year amidst COVID-19 conditions.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide class schedules at this time.  Students are asked to return their iPad, charger, and any other school-issued technology devices (such as a Chromebook) so we can install any necessary updates that will be needed by the first day of school.

If you are unable to attend your designated meeting, know that a video recording of a meeting will be available on our school website shortly following the last meeting.  Please do not attend another meeting time as we’re trying to limit the number of attendees.  Students unable to attend may return their iPads and/or other school-issued technology devices on their first day of school.

    Safety Protocols:

    • Due to limited space, only 2 adults per student is allowed.
    • Temperatures will be taken upon entering the building. Students and parents will be allowed to enter the building once deemed they do not have a temperature (must be under 100.0℉).
    • Everyone must bring and wear a mask for the duration of the meeting.  We will also need to “social distance” ourselves from others to promote safety. Families may sit together, but your family should social distance from others.
    • Hand sanitizer will be available.

    What to Bring?

    • Face Mask/Covering - Must be worn at all times while in the building.
    • iPad, charger, any other school-issued technology device
