I would like to take a moment to welcome parents and students to my class for the 2016-2017 school year! I’m excited about the opportunity to get to know you as well, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive school year!
This is my eleventh year teaching. Prior to teaching, I worked with children in various therapeutic settings for 18 years.

About This Year
This year we will focus on the following curriculum areas:·English Language Arts (including reading, writing, vocabulary, and handwriting), Math, Science, and Social Studies. We will will also give attention to developing social skills. For each student, we will take a highly individualized "one-step-at-a-time" approach as they are able to manage their regular education classrooms' academic demands.
How Parents Can Help
Please provide all the support you can in this critical mission for our kids! Support can be provided in many ways. Please be sure your child is prepared for class each day. Also, please be sure your child does not bring items to class that may be a distraction including toys, cell phones, games, etc. Be sure your child gets adequate sleep and proper nutrition. Lastly, be sure that any and all medications are properly administered as prescribed.
My grading policy this year is to assign grades as required according to each subject taught and according to the grading policies of their regular education teachers. The students in my class continue to make significant gains in all academic areas and need exposure to even more of the regular education curriculum and assessment methods.
Materials Sent Home/How to be Involved
Materials related to school events will be sent home with your child as they are made available. Please check with your child's take-home folder each day for these announcements! I hope you will make it a priority this year to attend as many school-sponsored events as possible! We welcome visitors to our classroom, and we always appreciate parents volunteering to help out. Perhaps the most important way you can be involved is through our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO).
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me by e-mail or phone. I also welcome appointments to meet in person. You can contact me at 864-947-9787 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
