Be an Inspiration
Grade: All K4-5th grade students
Mrs. Allyson Southerland
Music is an incredible tool for learning, not only for music making, but also for life skills and academics.
Since beginning my teaching career in 1995, I have had the pleasure of teaching band, chorus, and general music. As a matter of fact, many of my current students are the children of former students. I am blessed to teach in a distinguished district with fantastic teachers, parents, and students.
I was raised in Chapin, SC, along the shores of Lake Murray and loved anything to do with water sports and being in the band. After high school, I earned a Bachelors of
Music Education degree with a specialization in instrumental music (saxophone)
from Winthrop University and a Masters in Educational Leadership
and Supervision degree from Clemson University in 2008.
My husband, daughter, and I live in Pickens, SC where we have four cows, wild turkeys, and several deer who also like to visit.
I am honored with the opportunity to help make a lasting and positive impact on each child that enters my music classroom. It is my hope that they will transition to the middle school with a love of music and are equipped to use music to learn all of their subjects and become better problem solvers.
Music awakes the soul, enhances learning, and enriches life. It is my goal to provide high quality learning opportunities for all students and for them to value music as a performing art while, in turn, be able to use the class and stage experiences in their future endeavors.
