My name is Melanie Porter. This is my 32nd year of teaching here at Wren Elementary School! I received my associate of arts degree from Anderson College (now Anderson University) and my bachelor's degree from Carson Newman College with a double major in religion and human services and a minor in psychology. Before I became a teacher, I was in the field of social work, where I worked with emotionally disturbed and mentally challenged children. I also worked with families in crisis and children and teens who were victims of abuse. I received my graduate training in early childhood and elementary education from Furman University, and I earned my master's degree in guidance counseling from Clemson University. I am blessed to have three children; Chad, Jake, and Callie! Chad and his wife Rachel were married last summer! Callie and her husband Orlando were married in 2021, and Jake and his fiancee Brooke will be getting married this December! I am so proud of my children. They are truly my greatest blessings, and I thank God for them. In August of 2021, I married Jerry Porter and I am blessed to have a "bonus" son, Brett, my daughter-in-law Lauren, and two precious grandsons, Sawyer and Tripp. I also have a golden retriever named Sophie! I am a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church. I enjoy reading, music, photography, bike riding, running, and the beach! I LOVE spending time with my sweet little grandsons! Mrs. Jennifer Owens is my assistant in K4. This is her first year in K4 and I am so grateful to have her working with me! I thank God for the opportunity to have taught at Wren Elementary School for so many years. I truly believe that God called me to be a teacher and I will always be grateful for that calling!
