School Closure New Updates from Anderson District One

  1. Question: Where and when will breakfast and lunch be provided?
    Answer: Anderson One is distributing grab-and-go lunch/breakfast meals from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, at the following locations: Cedar Grove Elementary, Palmetto Elementary, Spearman Elementary, and Concrete Primary (Pick up lunch and breakfast for the following day.) Any student 18 or under is eligible to participate.  On Monday, March 30, the district will begin to deliver meals on designated bus routes.  The district will post these locations soon.
  1. Question: What about my child’s field trip?                                          \
    Answer: All district field trips have been cancelled for the remainder of the school year.  The district and schools are working to secure refunds for field trips.

  1. Question: Will Spring Break take place as planned?
    Answer: The district does not plan on making changes to Spring Break scheduled for April 6-April 10.

  2. Question: Will students need to attend school on April 13 which is scheduled as a snow make-up day?
    Answer: Currently Anderson School District One plans to be closed on April 13.

  3. Question: Will the Military Ball at Palmetto High be rescheduled?
    Answer: The Military Ball has been tentatively rescheduled for May 9th at the Williamston Town Hall. 

  4. Question: Will CAPS conferences be rescheduled?
    Answer: CAPS conferences scheduled for March 19 have been cancelled and will be completed at a later time. 

  5. Question: How long will students have to complete eLearning assignments?
    Answer: Students should be working on and completing assignments each day and directing questions, problems and issues to their teacher during their office hours: 9:00 - 10:30  and 1:30-3:00, Monday through Friday (except Friday, March 20 and Monday, March 23 which are student holidays). If you are not able to communicate with your teacher, please contact the school during normal business hours. eLearning is designed to provide learning opportunities for students similar to those they would experience in a regular school day. Therefore, teachers will require students to complete and turn in assignments so they can assess learning and provide timely feedback. It is extremely important that students keep up with their eLearning assignments and reach out to teachers as needed.  

  6. Question:  What do I do if my child does not know what assignment to complete or has trouble with his technology?
    Answer:  First, the student should contact his/her teacher.  If you do not have access to the internet or if it is outside of  the teacher’s office hours, contact the school. 

  7. Question: How will students receive and complete their work in grades PreK to grade two?
    Answer: Students with access to the internet may obtain and complete lessons from the school’s communication system (Seesaw, etc.).  Paper packets may be picked up from the main office of your child’s elementary school.  Completed work will be returned to the teacher once school reopens.

  8. Question: Do you have any idea how long the school closure will last?
    Answer: The Governor has initially closed schools from March 16 through March 31. There is a possibility that the Governor could extend the school closure for an indefinite amount of time.  District administration is staying in close contact with the Governor’s office and the SC Department of Education and will communicate with parents as updated information is provided.  

  9. Question: Can sports teams still practice and play?
    Answer: No. Sports teams should not gather to practice or play during this school closure. This defeats the purpose of “social distancing” as recommended by the CDC. The High School League has suspended all spring sports through April 5. This includes all contests, practices, work-outs (conditioning and strength training) and/or open season skill development.

  10. Question:  Do you have information about the high schools’ proms?
    Answer: The high schools are working with their venues to potentially reschedule this year’s proms.  The schools will provide information to parents and students as soon as it is available.  

  11. Question:  Will students have to make up the days missed during this closure?
    Answer:  The District is approved for eLearning days.  Each day spent at home working through eLearning instruction counts as a regular school day.  So, eLearning days will not have to be made up later in the school year.    

  12. Question:  Do you have information about the high schools’ graduations?
    Answer:  At this time, all Anderson One high school graduations will be held at Littlejohn Coliseum on May 22, 2020.  We will continue to monitor the graduation date and venue and will inform families if any changes occur. 

  13. Question:  Are schools going to be registering new or returning students during this closure?
    Answer:  New students needing to register for the current school year (2019-20) should contact the school for enrollment instruction. Current students will register for next year (2020-21) at a later time.
