According to Harrison, a very qualified committee of judges reviewed the applications and selected three finalists that were recognized: Kristee Brady – Wren Middle School, Hannah Heath – Powdersville Elementary School and Katie Howard – Concrete Primary School. Harrison announced the District Teacher of the Year - Ms. Hannah Heath, fourth grade teacher from Powdersville Elementary.

Hannah Heath shared, I am extremely honored to be chosen as Anderson District One's Teacher of the Year and blessed to work with and learn from some of the best educators in the state. In a year full of uncertainty, it is important to remember that we are all in this together. No matter the circumstances, we must keep our students as our focus and work together to provide the best learning opportunities for them. There are many unknowns for which we simply cannot prepare. However, we must lean on each other for support and ultimately be there for our students.

As educators, we have a duty to our students and their families to provide the best learning environment and experiences for everyone. I truly believe that all of my students can learn at high levels, and I will do whatever it takes to help my students reach their goals. By building relationships with students, knowing their needs and understanding their backgrounds, they can and will be more successful in the long run. We must be our students’ champion and provide a safe, nurturing environment in which all students feel empowered to learn, grow, and succeed. As teachers, we must have a “whatever it takes” mentality and be our students’ hero.”

Anderson One Superintendent shared, “I am very proud of Ms. Heath and the work that she has done. She is an incredible teacher that cares about students.”

Brad Moore, Principal of Powdersville Elementary School said, “We are so proud of Mrs. Heath and are excited to see her recognized as District Teacher of the Year. She goes above and beyond to love and support her students. The culture in her classroom allows for student needs to be met so students can learn and grow academically throughout the school year. She truly embodies the traits and characteristics that all educators should desire to emulate.”

Another annual recognition is our Induction Teacher of the Year, Ms. Kylee Moody, Concrete Primary School. Jane Harrison stated, “Our first year teacher has been labeled with some words and phrases that all teachers would aspire to be described: Infectious enthusiasm, confident, creative, genuine love and affection for students, kindness, energy, and more. They have been credited with being smart, knowledgeable, and sounds like a veteran when giving advice to others; they said you have to connect with your students and teach them to love learning.”

Dr. Kelly Pew, Assistant Superintendent, introduced the Support Staff of the Year.

She announced the 2020 - 2021 support person of the year is Ms. Sandra Bagwell, from Cedar Grove Elementary School. Ms. Bagwell is the Nutrition Services Manager at Cedar Grove.  Ms. Kristy Finley, Principal of Cedar Grove said, “Sandra's light shines so bright every single day for our kids and staff. You never see her without a smile on her face or without her asking, "Do you need anything?" She treasures her time with our students and seeks out ways to brighten their days. She pours love into our meals, and we all know she counts it a blessing to feed us each day. We are beyond blessed to work alongside her at Cedar Grove.
