Powdersville Bands Win State Awards

Congratulations to Powdersville Middle School and Powdersville High School band. They have the distinction of being awarded the "Outstanding Performance Award" (OPA) for band by the South Carolina Band Directors Association.

It is my distinct pleasure to announce that Powdersville Middle School and Powdersville High School have earned the Outstanding Performance Award for the 2021-2022 school year. The Outstanding Performance Award is the highest achievement for band programs in South Carolina. To earn this award, students must have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in all areas of their program. Points were earned through their success in Marching Band Championships, Region and All-State Band, Concert Performance Assessment, and Solo and Ensemble. Dr. Adam Scheuch, the Awards Chairman, stated "This is a big deal, and we are excited to celebrate with you."

To earn this award, the band must excel at marching band, region band auditions, all-state auditions, jazz band performance assessment, concert performance assessment, and solo and ensemble assessment - which was accomplished and is what makes this OPA recognition such a big deal! It's the most prestigious award offered by the state association; moreover, the Powdersville High School Band was one of only 38 schools in South Carolina to earn this award.

Please congratulate all our students involved in our various band activities, along with directors, Chris Mitchell and Trey Ferrell and their team of instructors! They earned this, and we celebrate with them.
