August 22, 2025 – Williamston, SC – Teachers at Palmetto High School took part in a dynamic day of professional development this week, engaging in activities designed to enhance classroom instruction and student achievement.
During the session, educators modeled a strategy known as hexagonal thinking, a collaborative and visual learning approach that encourages students to make meaningful connections between concepts. By experiencing the strategy firsthand, teachers explored how this method can foster critical thinking and deeper understanding among their students.
In addition to instructional strategies, the day included rich discussion around the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process, a cornerstone of the school's commitment to continuous improvement. Teachers collaborated in teams to analyze student data, align curriculum goals, and refine instructional practices, ensuring that every student has access to high-quality learning experiences.
A central focus of the training was the importance of Tier 1 instruction, the core academic instruction all students receive. Faculty members emphasized the need for strong, consistent Tier 1 teaching as the foundation of student success and a key component in supporting all learners within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
Principal Robby Roach praised the staff’s dedication: “Our teachers are committed to refining their craft and working together to meet the needs of every student. Days like this reflect the professionalism and passion that make Palmetto High a great place to learn and grow.”
As Palmetto High continues to focus on instructional excellence, collaborative professional development opportunities like this remain vital in equipping teachers with the tools and strategies needed to empower students in a changing world.
