Spearman Elementary’s Vex Robotics Team has had the privilege to participate in robotics competitions with elementary schools throughout Anderson School District One for a couple of years now. These competitions are provided by Matt Taylor and his team of students from Wren Middle School, who take time out of their schedules to introduce elementary students to an interest they may want to pursue in middle school. This year, Spearman had a team come in second place! All of our students worked so hard building their robots, learning how to drive them, and figuring out how to earn maximum points in the competition.

Safety is our top priority at Spearman Elementary.

Today was "Safety Day" and our students practiced earthquake, tornado, and fire drills. They stayed calm, quiet, and respectful during each drill — we’re so proud of how responsibly our students handled it! ✅

Can you imagine a zero heist? 🤯 Last week we celebrated the 100th day of school and our Kindergarteners learned that Number Ninja had taken all our zeros because he couldn’t count. Thankfully they were able to teach him to count — then Zero the Hero captured Number Ninja in an epic (and very chilly) showdown and returned the zeros! ❄️🦸‍♀️🎉

Want to see reading mastery in action? 🎭📖 Mrs. Landreth and Mrs. Calvert’s students put on a delightful Readers Theatre to showcase their fluency goal: “smooth like butter, not choppy like chicken.” Students practiced expression, pacing, and acting — then performed for parents, teachers, staff, and members of the District Office. The audience was so impressed with their confidence and growth! 🌟

Did you hear? Our 1st and 5th graders had an unforgettable field trip to Clemson Women’s Basketball Education Day! 🏀✨ During halftime they took part in the “Are You Smarter Than a Clemson College Student?” STEM Halftime Show — a fast-paced science trivia contest where K–6 volunteers competed against Clemson undergraduate science majors. All questions were developed by the Clemson University Science Outreach Center and aligned to South Carolina K–6 science standards, so this was real classroom learning in action. Between rounds, Clemson students shared what they’re studying and their career goals, giving our students inspiring STEM role models.
