Join us on Thursday, May 4th, 2023, from 5:30-8:30pm, for a Family Literacy Festival! The staff of Spearman Elementary and the PTO are proud to host this event to celebrate the impact and importance of literacy. Bring your whole family and enjoy live music, food trucks, a variety of literacy activities (including free books, signing up for a library card, STEAM activity, creating cards for local nursing homes & more), shopping the school book fair, a silent auction and supporting local vendors. (This will be a free admission event but will include opportunities to pay for food, raffle tickets for silent auction items and any purchases from local vendors.) What a wonderful evening this will be to gather together and enjoy celebrating literacy - the great ability our children have to read and write!
Important Note: The literacy activities will take place from 5:30-7:30pm and the live music, food trucks and vendors will last until 8:30pm. The drawings for the silent auction items will be at 7:45pm, and you must be present to win!

Last week’s weekly recap…
On Wednesday, April 19th, Spearman hosted the annual, district-wide “Battle of the Books” competition. Congratulations to everyone who participated in “Battle of the Books” this year, and a special congratulations to the team pictured, the All Star Readers, for representing Spearman. This team came in 2nd overall in the district! We are very proud! Thank you, Mrs. Gambrell, for your hard work with this event each year!
On Thursday, April 20th, we had a “purple out” to celebrate and show support to our Spearman Military Families.
On Friday, April 21st, Spearman hosted the annual, district-wide 5th Grade Olympics! A special thank you to Coach Darnell for all of his hard work with our 5th grade Olympics. He prepared our students well, and out of 12 events (counting both girls and boys), Spearman placed 1st place in 6 of the events. We also placed 2nd or 3rd in several other events. We are proud of each participant, and most importantly, how our Spearman team demonstrated great sportsmanship.
On the evening of Friday, the 21st, we wrapped up the week with the Mother-Son Movie! Thank you to everyone who joined us for this event and to our wonderful PTO for providing popcorn, candy and Sunset Slushies!

Juniors of Troop 1532 are having a fundraiser spaghetti dinner for PAWS and would love to invite you!

Real Men Read at Spearman Elementary. Our teachers, students and faculty enjoyed having men from our community read to our students today. It was a huge success to see men from all walks of life reading to our students. It was a “win-win” for everyone!!

Being a media specialist brings her great joy; especially when students come to her requesting specific books. Being an avid reader herself, she understands the joy books can provide. She participates in 2 book clubs outside of school and you can always find out what she is reading by checking out her signature line in her email.
We appreciate Mrs. Gambrell's dedication to Spearman's students, staff and faculty. She is willing to pull books for instructional purposes or special events at Spearman with a smile and great attitude! We love Mrs. Gambrell!

The Spearman PTO is excited to present a Mother-Son Movie Night on Friday, April 21st, from 6:30-8:30pm! The featured movie will be Sonic the Hedgehog 2. All Spearman boys are invited to bring ONE guest - mom, aunt, grandma or other special female in his life!
Tickets are on sale NOW, and the cost is $15 per couple, and $5 for each additional boy. Payments can be made by check (payable to Spearman PTO), cash, or Venmo (@spearmanpto). If paying with check or cash, please send in an envelope or bag with your child's name and teacher written on it.
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer at this event, please email Whitney Rowe at spearmanptopresident@gmail.com.
Thank you so much!
